Farewell To Marg Helgenberger
This has been a big week for Marg Helgenberger. She got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame… and tonight is her last TV appearance, after 13 seasons, as CSI’s Catherine Willows. I had the pleasure of meeting Marg — and acting with her— at the W. Hollywood Book Fair Teen stage in October. She is honestly the sweetest, most down-to-earth person imaginable. Here she is...

Teaser Tuesday! Fat Girls in LA!
“Again, she curtsied, and again, the applause grew louder.  She reached a delicate hand toward the single rose and brought the perfect flower to her nose for a dramatic sniff. Oh yes, they loved it.  And her.  All 217 pounds of her.“  From “Fat Girls in LA (Book 1: All About Vee)” http://amzn.com/B006C96FQG

Awesome Zendaya
Just saw Zendaya singing and dancing at the Thanksgiving Day parade! Here she is at the Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times Halloween Carnival. She came to lend her support to both that fantastic charitable event and teen literacy, reading my new YA Thriller DANCERGIRL, published by HarlequinTEEN, available wherever books are sold!

First Sighting-dancergirl
Walking into a random bookstore, and seeing your book for the very first time, definitely ranks high on the list of Best Days One Can Have. Star, the YA expert at the Pasadena Barnes & Noble, was almost as excited as I was: “I just put it out this morning — and it looks soooo good. It’s on my personal list to read.” I signed copies and she put that special...

Dupar's-Lincoln Lawyer's Fave Restaurant
In Michael Connelly’s adult thriller THE FIFTH WITNESS, defense attorney Mickey Haller picks up his daughter from his ex-wife’s house and takes her to Dupar’s where, once a week, they order pancakes for dinner. Ever since I read the book a few weeks ago, I’ve been hankering for those pancakes. So when a friend and I decided to meet for lunch, well, where else but...

The most wonderful box...
arrived. I am sure it never gets old! Oh-so-carefully slitting the tape, unfolding the cardboard flaps—deep breath––and there they are. So beautiful! So much work… but it all paid off. My brand new, shiny (literally—the cover glows) novel! Thanks to Harlequin Teen’s Natashya Wilson and the book’s hard-working editor, Adam Wilson. I gotta admit: I am really happy!

Great Shake-Out
Yesterday, I participated in the Great California Shakeout Drill. Actually, it was scary. Los Angeles: WE ARE NOT PREPARED! The kids at my Thursday school, though, which was a regional center for the earthquake drill, were all in. Lots of firemen, tons of drama. Since this is L.A., there was the requisite Hollywood make-up artist who “injured” several kids. The student below literally...

Martha Graham dances
To celebrate the upcoming 11/22/11 release of my YA thriller DANCERGIRL, a friend sent me rare photos of a young Martha Graham dancing. This is the first of six…(Photo by Barbara Morgan, 1940, “Martha Graham Letter to the World”, from the John Martin Collection, Courtesy of the Zachary Solov Foundation).

Italy Chronicles, Pt. 2 – Graduation Day
As I mentioned, we are staying right by the university in Venice.  A few days ago, it was graduation day for the degree of Dotorro (like our master’s degree.) The up-to-now very-serious graduates dress in strange outfits, read their “manifestos” which are written by their friends, in rhyme, about their life in the university… –and then they get pelted by their friends and family with...

Italy Chronicles, Pt. 1
So yes, I am a YA writer (DANCERGIRL publishes on 11/22/11 by HarlequinTeen) but I am also a person who (sometimes) gets to go on vacation! I’ve been lucky enough to spend 12 days in Venice, Italy via a house swap (the Italians stay at my place, I stay in theirs). Who knew that THEIR place is right in the university section of Venice called Dosoduro. We “live” on Campo Sta. Margharita—in other...

Fave Golden Globe Moment
Glee winning Best Comedy/Musical. The funniest part was when writer Ian Brennan saluted public school teachers as being both underpaid and under-appreciated. The  camera pans to clueless actors sitting in the audience. Public School? What the heck is that, they wonder. Especially after Robert DeNiro, in his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award, has just explained that he’s...
